Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, an international relief organization. Their mission is to provide local partners around the world with shoeboxes filled with small toys, hygiene items, and school supplies as a means of reaching out to children in their own communities with the Good News of Jesus Christ. These simple gifts are shipped outside the United States to children affected by war, poverty, natural disaster, famine, and disease.
In the past we have collected year round donations, offering and donations at VBS, and have used offering to buy shoes to put in boxes. The Wednesday night kids group (JAM) have packed boxes multiple years as a service project. Planning for Operation Christmas Child (if not doing year round donations) begins in August with the ordering of shoeboxes, shipping labels, information pamphlets. In October an information table is placed in the foyer, along with shoeboxes to fill and information on how the boxes make it around the world.
